Not being a technical expert, I can't say whether the problem is the chip or the Linux driver. BUUUUT it appears the be the chip based on what I've read, and the fact that the Linux driver hasn't been fixed for a chip that it about a decade old also indicates that the problem lies with the chip, not the driver. I mean, come on guys.
All this is why I took 1 egg off. It's a simple problem to fix, but it shouldn't have been an issue to begin with. I'm using a Ryzen 5 and slightly overclocked RAM. The only other odd thing I experienced involved the video. Linux recognized the second monitor, but the picture was horrible. Installing the proprietary Nvidia drivers fixed that.
Windows didn't even recognize the second monitor until the drivers were installed. Very weird. This could have been an Nvidia issue, though so I didn't ding this motherboard for it. That being said, I'm no enthusiast by any means.
However, when I got everything up and running I noticed that Windows took an extra minute or two to fully boot up. My previous build, that I upgraded from, took maybe 15 seconds from pressing the power button to loading up my first program. Overall Review: Some initial info. I have thoroughly abused this board. I run 1 or 2 rtx 's in same case spewing out a good to w. I must have won the capacitor lottery because no issues so far. Pros: I knew the bios would need to be updated so i made sure to get an m flash model, do your homework and make sure its included , or be sure you have an older gen ryzen chip ready to go!
Otherwise great looking board, placement for ports and such it a vast improvement over the old asrock board i came from. Cons: for the price and having a gen 4 m. Overall Review: do your home work if you're getting a ryzen series chip, otherwise should have zero issues with the board!
Cons: Not really a con, but was an issue for me.. SATA slots. Comes with six, my last MSI board had 8. I mirror my drives so I was short one slot for my BluRay player. Overall Review: This is my 6th or 7th MSI board having had some bad experiences many years ago with other brands. I guess I've become an MSI fanboy in regards to boards since they've never let me down knock knock.
I can always rely on their build quality, gamer rich features and compatibility with the other components I tend to use Sapphire, Corsair, G. Skill, etc. I started my build late at night after a long workday so I wasn't at the top of my game.
I took my time and made sure to pay attention to everything but when I went to boot the system the first time I got nothing. Powered on but nothing on the monitor. One look in the case and I saw the little LED lit up on the board, looked in the book.. Closer examination I could see one side wasn't completely seated hardly noticeable. Pushed it in, reboot and bingo! Lift Off! If it didn't have the EZ Diagnostics who knows how many more hours I'd been up trying to figure it out.
Pros: All of the features on the motherboard, to which I have connected, have functioned properly. Cons: The three x4 short expansion slots and the lower M. According to the specs shown in the Owner's Manual, the upper x4 expansion slot will be unavailable if the middle x4 slot is occupied.
The right-hand mounting screw for the heat sink for the upper M. This could be problematic if your case is equipped with a pilot stud in this location instead of a stand-off.
I solved this problem by removing the pilot stud and screwing the top-side heatsink stand-off into a nut on the underside of the motherboard.
